FireSmart Representative Workshop in Nanaimo

A free, two-day workshop on becoming a Local FireSmart Representative is being offered in Nanaimo on December 2 & 3, 2014. Local government and First Nations’ fire and emergency preparedness staff and elected officials are encouraged to attend.

The workshop is being delivered in each of the province’s Fire Centres. Sponsored by the Provincial Fuel Management Working Group, in coordination with Partners in Protection, the workshops provide participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to protect their communities from wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires.

Information on the 8-step FireSmart Canada Community Recognition Program, Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative grant program and the Wildfire Management Branch’s Landscape Fire Management initiative will be presented.

The workshop is free of charge, however registration is required by November 21, 2014. A second Coastal Fire Centre workshop is planned for the Lower Mainland in Fall 2015.
