Call for Local Government Resolutions

It's time for UBCM members to submit resolutions to Area Associations for consideration. Guidelines for top-notch resolution writing along with the deadlines for submissions are now available.

The annual resolutions cycle is the main forum for UBCM policy-making, providing an opportunity for local governments of all sizes and from all areas of the province to express concerns, share their experiences and develop united positions.

Submit Resolutions to Area Associations

Members should submit resolutions to Area Associations first for consideration. Resolutions endorsed by Area Associations at their annual meetings are submitted automatically to UBCM for consideration and do not need to be re-submitted to UBCM by the sponsor.

Area Association submission deadlines for 2014 are as follows:

February 10
February 24
February 28
March 7
March 21
Please contact your Area Association for resolution submission procedures at the regional level.

A resolution may be submitted directly to UBCM if it addresses an issue that arises after the Area Association annual meeting. If this is the case, local governments may submit council- or board-endorsed resolutions to UBCM until June 30, 2014.

Drafting Resolutions

Staff and elected officials are strongly encouraged to follow the writing guidelines provided in the Resolutions Procedures section of the UBCM website. A clear, concise resolution is easier to understand, and this increases the likelihood that the membership will grant it their endorsement. Furthermore, clear resolutions result in clearer responses from the provincial or federal government, or relevant organization.
