Building Energy Benchmarking Webinar

The City of Vancouver is hosting a one-hour webinar to explain the value of "building energy benchmarking" as a step toward implementing a climate change action plan for buildings (community and private buildings).  Benchmarking provides an “apples-to-apples” comparison of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from similar buildings over time.

The City of Vancouver recently released its “Energy Retrofit Strategy for Existing Buildings” with a goal to reduce energy consumption and emissions by 20% by 2020 (including industrial sources), heavily emphasizing energy benchmarking. Benchmarking supports voluntary investment in energy upgrades to buildings, improving their energy affordability for businesses, households and communities.
A Vancouver/LMLGA Resolution “Benchmarking Tools for Building Energy Use” has been submitted to UBCM for consideration in September 2014.  It seeks to create a new optional tool for local governments to develop and achieve their GHG reduction targets, while supporting improved energy affordability of buildings.
The one hour webinar is being offered at four times, depending upon participation:

  • September 8: 12pm-1pm

  • September 10: 3:30pm-4:30pm

  • September 12: 9:30am-10:30am

  • September 16: 8am-9am
