Local Government Elections

General Local Elections in BC are held every four years on the third Saturday in October. The next general local election will be Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Each local government is responsible for running its own general local election.

Elections BC is responsible for the administration of the campaign financing, disclosure and third-party advertising rules under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.

The BC government, through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, is responsible for the core local government system and its legislative framework including maintaining and changing the framework for local elections, by-elections and assent voting events.
