G7 Summit to Impact Policing Resources

The RCMP (via the Province) has provided correspondence to UBCM regarding the upcoming G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec (June 8-9, 2018), and its potential impact on RCMP policing resources. The Government of Canada has a security obligation that will require RCMP contract FTEs be redeployed to Charlevoix in May/June 2018.

The G7 Integrated Security Unit and National HQ Human Resource sector are working to determine the RCMP resource requirements to meet security needs. In order to minimize the impact on front line policing, the RCMP are also considering the following measures:

  • Restriction of annual leave;
  • Rescheduling shifts to ensure service delivery during peak periods;
  • Cancelling or rescheduling regular training;
  • Minimizing court requirements through communication with court administrators;
  • Deploying contract members for the shortest possible period of time and mobilizing members on a staggered basis; and,
  • Prioritizing the use of resources, to utilize federal and administrative resources before turning to contract resources.

Local governments with concerns or questions should contact their Detachment Commanders.
