Public-Rail Safety Week

April 25 to May 1, 2016 has been designated as Public-Rail Safety Week.  The purpose of the Week to increase rail safety awareness among all Canadians; highlight the ongoing commitment of communities; and the rail industry to make Canada’s rail network even safer.

UBCM, through its participation on the BC Provincial Committee on Rail Safety, is supporting efforts reduce the number of highway/railway grade crossing collisions and trespassing incidents on railway property through coordinated and targeted public outreach initiatives. Other members of the Rail Safety Committee include: Transport Canada, the BC Safety Authority, Canada's railroads, railway unions, police and Operation Lifesaver.  Thanks to Councillor Bruce Hayne, Surrey who serves as UBCM’s representative to the Committee.

Communities interested in participating in the week are encouraged to go to the Operation Lifesaver website where a number of resources are available.
