Input Sought on Provincial Spill Response Regime

On May 19, amendments to the Environmental Management Act were passed, establishing a new land-based spill preparedness and response regime.

The Ministry of Environment continues to seek input on its third intentions paper (IP3) outlining the Ministry‚Äôs proposed regulatory changes relating to this regime. Interested local governments are encouraged to provide comments on IP3 to the Ministry of Environment by June 30, 2016.

The Ministry of Environment has also expressed intent to form technical working groups starting in late June that will provide technical feedback on the regulatory development. Local governments interested in participating in the technical working groups are encouraged to contact Daphne Dolhaine with the Ministry of Environment's Spill Response Regime Project.

Please copy Josh van Loon, Senior Policy Analyst, UBCM on all submissions to the Ministry regarding the new land-based spill preparedness and response regime. This includes comments on IP3, as well as expressions of interest to participate in technical working groups.
