Funding for Local Emergency Preparedness

Disability Alliance BC has received funding from Emergency Management BC to work with local authorities to meet the objectives of the Province’s Accessibility 2024 initiative. DABC will be working with local authorities to ensure the needs of people with disabilities are met during emergencies and disasters.

As part of its work, DABC will collaborate with local authorities to review local response plans, provide recommendations on how to identify the needs of people with disabilities and integrate the Functional Needs Framework, and provide emergency preparedness training.

Launched in 2014, Accessibility 2024 is the Province’s 10-year action plan to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It includes 12 building blocks, of which Emergency Preparedness is one. The overall goal is for “every BC community to have accommodated the needs of persons with disabilities in its emergency planning by 2024”.
