Conference Call on Liquor Parallel Process

In January 2016, local governments had the opportunity to comment on the provincial government’s proposed parallel process for liquor primary and similar applications. The Province has scheduled a follow-up conference call on March 31, 2016 to discuss concerns, answer questions, provide additional information and outline next steps for the proposed parallel process.

The impetus for changes to the parallel process arose from Recommendation #39 of the provincial Liquor Policy Review, which states:

Government should consult with UBCM, local governments […] and First Nations about streamlining the liquor application process. An applicant for a liquor primary licence should be able to seek input from the local government or First Nation before or at the same time it applies to LCLB.

The Province’s draft Proposed Parallel Process for Liquor Primaries, and Manufacturer Lounges and Special Event Areas outlines key changes to the parallel process, and the potential impacts on local governments.

Interested local government senior staff or elected officials are invited to join the follow-up conference call on the parallel process.
