2017 LGLA Leadership Forum

Registration is now open for the Local Government Leadership Academy’s 2017 Leadership Forum will be held February 1-3, 2017 in Richmond. Under the theme of Communication: Listening, Connecting, Leading, delegates from BC local governments and First Nations will come together to consider the importance of communicating well by making yourself understood and by taking the time to understand others.

This focus follows up on last year’s theme of Respectful Leadership and will include a variety of practical sessions leading to improved communications – with colleagues, with staff and with your community.

Topics will range from the power of storytelling, to better communications between local governments and First Nations, to understanding different communication styles, to improving your public speaking, inclusive public engagement, communication ethics, leading through better communicating, and more. This year the LGLA has also contracted a professional Graphic Recorder to document the forum proceedings and to provide delegates with an introduction to the art of graphic recording.

The Honourable Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development will join us, as will MLA Selina Robinson, Opposition Spokesperson for Seniors, Local Government and Sport.

Since the first forum in 2007, LGLA's annual province-wide gathering has been well received by elected officials and senior administrators from BC local governments and First Nations communities. All those with an interest in leadership at the local level will benefit from attendance, including those working towards an LGLA Certificate in Local Government Leadership.

Delegates will experience a full program guaranteed to inform and inspire – an exciting keynote, practical sessions addressing an array of current issues and concerns, interesting panel discussions, ample networking opportunities and the excellent hospitality of the Radisson Hotel in the heart of downtown Richmond. Registration is $310/person + GST and includes the welcome reception, full breakfasts on Thursday and Friday, lunch on Thursday, and refreshment breaks.

The Radisson Hotel is currently wait-listing rooms at the special “early bird” group rate of $125/night (based on availability and subject to change). Please call 1-800-333-3333 or email reservations@radissonvancouver.com and mention the “2017 LGLA Forum” when you reserve.

Please Note: UBCM will be hosting the annual Electoral Area Directors’ Forum January 30 – February 1, 2017, also at the Radisson Hotel.
