Throne Speech Emphasizes Continuity

Yesterday the Honourable Judith Guichon opened the current Parliament of the Province of British Columbia by delivering a Throne Speech that highlighted the continuing work of the Government to strengthen the economy and control spending.

The speech committed the government to continue to work with local government to share best practices and control spending.  The Government will also introduce the Rural Advisory Council, which will aim to provide independent and impartial advice to rural B.C. communities increase opportunities and manage growth, in the coming weeks.

Among a number of measures whose focus is economic growth, the speech indicated that the Government is working with the federal government and the B.C. forest industry to negotiate a new Softwood Lumber Agreement to replace the current agreement set to expire in October.  The speech also indicated the Government would deliver a balanced budget in 2015 for the third year in a row.
