Stop the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week

The Province of British Columbia has proclaimed March 9 - 15, 2015 as Stop the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week. The week recognizes the ongoing work of groups throughout BC that are developing prevention, education, enforcement and intervention strategies to address the sexual exploitation of children and youth.

The Ministry of Justice provides thousands of Fuchsia Ribbons across the province each year to those that are interested in distributing them locally during Awareness Week.  The fuchsia-colored ribbons symbolize efforts in preventing the sexual exploitation of children and youth because it is a combination of red, for red light districts and purple, the provincial color for violence prevention. Please wear a Fuchsia Ribbon during the week to help raise awareness about the issue of child and youth sexual exploitation. The ribbons will be available until March 6th, 2015. If you are interested in receiving ribbons to distribute in your community, please contact Jaret Hunter at the Ministry of Justice with your mailing address and the number of ribbons that you are requesting.

This year marks the 17th annual Stop the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week in B.C. and it will coincide with the province of Manitoba for the fifth year in a row.
