Province Commits Funding, Advisory Committee for Urban Deer

Responding today to a series of recommendations made by the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), the Province has committed to striking a Provincial Urban Deer Advisory Committee along with the provision of up to $100,000 annually for future urban deer management operations.

The Provincial Urban Deer Advisory Committee will have both provincial and local government representation to work together on urban deer management. The committee will be formed shortly, with more details to follow.

Details on how the funding will be made available will be worked out in consultation with the Urban Deer Advisory Committee, once it is formed. Any project would require review and permitting by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, in accordance with the Wildlife Act.

The recommendations from the UBCM flowed from a joint UBCM-Provincial Urban Deer Workshop in 2015.
