New Auditor General for Local Government Announced

On Wednesday, Minister Peter Fassbender announced that Gordon Ruth has been appointed as the next Auditor General for Local Government.

Gordon Ruth, FCPA, FCGA is currently the executive vice president of certification and operations for the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC. Ruth was also the chief executive officer for the Certified General Accountants of BC and has held several positions in the public sector.  He spent 15 years with the Greater Vancouver Regional District (now Metro Vancouver), ultimately as the chief financial officer.  His appointment is effective October 1, 2015.

The Minister also indicated that additional appointments to the Audit Council at the AGLG are forthcoming.  The new appointees will both bring local government experience to their role with the Council.

In the balance of his address, Minister Fassbender committed to additional dialogue with UBCM and local government regarding the Building Canada Fund; encouraged delegates to engage in the new Promote Your Community to the World program; and reiterated his commitment to work with mayors on the future of TransLink.
