Funding Announced for Safe Drinking Water

Following a commitment made at last year’s Convention, Health Minister Terry Lake today announced $500,000 in funding for the BC Water & Waste Association to help communities address small water systems challenges.

The Ministry plans to work the association to support communities that rely on small water systems and ultimately reduce health risks and boil water advisories.  In addition, workshops, webinars and supports to improve local governance and stability are expected to follow in 2016.

UBCM has provided recommendations to the province regarding small water systems and today’s announcement responds to some of these recommendations.
