FireSmart Community Workshops Wrap Up

The final Local FireSmart Representative Workshop will be held in the Coastal Fire Center in Burnaby, BC on November 17 & 18, 2015.

Over the past 18 months the Provincial Fuel Management Working Group, in coordination with Partners in Protection, have convened five Local FireSmart Representative workshops across British Columbia. Previous workshops have been held in Creston, Nanaimo, Williams Lake, Prince George and Kamloops.

With the completion of these workshops, more than 200 individuals from throughout the province will have received training in FireSmart principles and strategies. The training assists First Nations and local governments to participate in the FireSmart Community Recognition Program.

The final offering of this two-day workshop will provide participants with a thorough understanding of wildland-urban interface wildfire threats, and empower participants with the skills and tools to protect their communities. The workshop also includes a presentation on UBCM’s Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative, including the new SWPI FireSmart Grant program, and informs participants on how they can help protect their communities through this program.

Registration for the workshop is now open. A one-page poster [PDF - 182 KB] is available for printing and posting.
