Wildfire Program Closed to Prescriptions, Treatment

Funding has now been fully allocated for fuel management prescriptions and operational treatment projects under the 2014 Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative. The Provincial Fuel Management Working Group will not be accepting new proposals for prescriptions, demonstration or operational projects until further notice.

Proposals will continue to be accepted for new Community Wildfire Protection Plans (or to update existing plans) for high and extreme risk communities. The next application intake is Oct. 3, 2014.

The Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative is a suite of funding programs managed by the Provincial Fuel Management Working Group, comprised of the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society (FNESS) and the Wildfire Management Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

Prior to application, local governments and First Nations should contact their local Fire Centre Fuel Management Specialist or the FNESS Forest Fuel Management Department for guidance on the priority for new and updated CWPPs and the criteria required to be met for funding approval.
