Rail Safety Outreach Committee Established

First Vice-President, Councillor Sav Dhaliwal has been appointed to serve as UBCM's representative to the newly established BC Provincial Committee on Rail Safety Public Outreach.

The purpose of the Committee is to undertake targeted public outreach activities that would promote rail safety in an effort to reduce the number of highway/railway grade crossing collisions and trespassing incidents on railway property. Several rail industry stakeholders have partnered together to establish the committee, which is co-chaired by Transport Canada – Pacific Region and the BC Safety Authority. In addition to UBCM, Operation Lifesaver is also represented, a national organization that promotes and delivers programs across Canada to enhance rail safety.

The Committee is looking for opportunities to promote Rail Safety Week during April 28 – May 4. If there are communities interested in undertaking some type of rail safety initiative during that week, please contact Marie Crawford, Associate Executive Director.
