FCM Focus on Hometown Champions

Wednesday afternoon was kicked off with an address from Mayor Brad Woodside, President of Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), and Fredericton’s longest serving mayor.

Mayor Woodside spoke to the recent successes of FCM, including negotiating for an indexation to the federal Gas Tax Fund; the GST rebate program; and tighter rail safety.

Upcoming priority areas for FCM will include working with all levels of government to focus on the issue of the Canadian housing crunch; predictable long-term infrastructure funding to address issues such as new wastewater requirements and transit gridlock; and disaster mitigation strategies to address flooding, fires and other significant events.

Mayor Woodside concluded with announcing the launch of a new FCM campaign focused on hometowns and encouraged delegates to get involved by being “Hometown Champions” leading up to the next federal election.
