E-Cigarettes: What to Do?

The BC Healthy Living Alliance (BCHLA) has prepared a position statement regarding e-cigarettes, electronic vaporizing systems intended to replicate the smoking experience. Given a lack of scientific research on the effects of e-cigarettes, BCHLA recommends that they should be subject to the same regulations as other tobacco products to ensure clarity for users, vendors and the public in general.

Users of e-cigarettes inhale a vapourized solution that may be composed of varying ingredients, most commonly propylene glycol. The long-term effects of vaporizing and inhaling these substances have not been studied.

For more information on this issue, see the BCHLA position statement. UBCM is a member of the BCHLA.
