Deadline Extended for Comments on Land Based Spills Plan

The deadline has been extended for comments on the Ministry of Environment's 2nd intentions paper to address Land Based Spill Preparedness and Response. Due to requests from respondents, the deadline has been extended to Friday, July 25, 2014.

The Ministry is most interested in getting feedback on: (1) criteria for preparedness, response and restoration requirements; (2) establishment of a provincial preparedness and response organization, and; (3) funding for an enhanced provincial Environmental Emergency Program

The second intentions paper follows the release of the first intentions paper in November 2012 and a year of consultations with industry, First Nations, local government and environmental non-governmental organization representatives. Other key issues in the paper include compensation for local and First Nations government expenditures, geographic response plans, and environmental damage assessments and post-incident reviews.

The intentions paper is available for review online. Comments can be submitted by email, letter, or by completing the applicable response form.

Please contact Angie Poss, Ministry of Environment, to discuss the intentions paper.

For questions or concerns regarding the consultation process please Cindy Bertram.
