Councillor Patrick Nicol Remembered

Nearly a thousand residents and elected officials gathered Monday at the memorial service for City of Vernon Councillor Patrick Nicol (with video).

Mr. Nicol worked 42 years in the radio broadcast industry and had been the General Manager of Kiss FM.  Nicol was first elected to city council in 1986, and was elected Chair of the Regional District of North Okanagan in 2011. He attended his last council meeting a week ago Monday.  Mr. Nicol was 64.

Vernon Mayor Rob Sawatzky, one of many who spoke at the memorial, fondly remembered Nicol and his commitment to the City. “If Vernon had royalty, Patrick would be a member of our royal family,” said Sawatzky.

UBCM President Rhona Martin also attended, saying the service "was a wonderful tribute to a caring and thoughtful community leader.  Patrick will be so greatly missed.”

Many media outlets noted councillor Nicol's passing, including this report from Global News.
