Two sessions at the 2013 UBCM Convention will highlight these and other funding programs, tools and resources available to local governments and First Nations to pursue community projects.

A second round of funding under the 2013/14 Regional Community to Community (C2C) Forum program is now available. C2C Forums are meant to increase understanding and improve overall relations between First Nations and local governments by providing a time and place for dialogue between elected officials on issues of common responsibility or interest. Local governments and First Nations are encouraged to apply by the October 11 deadline for forums to be held before March 31, 2014.

The final intake for the 2013 Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative is October 4. Local governments and First Nations can apply to develop plans and undertake fuel management projects to reduce the threat of wildfire on public lands in and around their communities.

Two clinics supporting local governments seeking funding and resources for community projects will be offered at the upcoming UBCM Convention. “Tools, Funding & Resources” takes place on Monday, September 16 at 9:00 am and “Wildfire, Community Protection & Participation” is on Wednesday September 18 at 7:30am.
