Local Government Awareness Week Dates Announced

Local Government Awareness Week (LGAW) will take place May 19-25, 2013 in conjunction with National Public Works Week. This initiative is a partnership between UBCM, CivicInfo BC, Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Public Works Association of BC and BC School Trustees Association. The goal for the week is to generate awareness and educate the public about the roles and responsibilities of local government, and encourage the public to participate in local government processes.

Local Government Awareness Week was re-instated following the endorsement of resolution 2009-A2, which requested that the provincial government work with UBCM and other local government partner organizations to proclaim an annual local government week in British Columbia.

Check out the Local Government Awareness Week website for more information about LGAW. Browse the resources on the site, download information to help you get started, and tell us about your plans for LGAW 2013 – we will post them on the website for others to see.

For questions about Local Government Awareness Week, please contact Reiko Tagami. We look forward to hearing about your activities!
