Age-friendly Funding Continues

Local governments have the opportunity to apply for funding to help them prepare for an aging population, thanks to renewed funding announced last week by the Ministry of Health.

The 2014 Age-friendly Community Planning & Project Grants program will provide grants up to $20,000 for planning efforts and projects that help seniors live active, socially engaged and independent lives through policies, services and structures designed to support them.

The U.B.C.M. has provided support for seniors through its Seniors' Housing & Support Initiative since 2004.

The priority in 2014 is to engage communities that have not yet completed an age-friendly plan or undertaken a project focused on age-friendly communities. A maximum of 25 grants will be available. Applications are due by October 18, 2013.
