Local Government House

Local Government House is a candidate for LEED Gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council and is a showcase for BC building products and materials. It is truly a green building with green operating policies and practices established by the UBCM Executive. Some highlights include:

Proximity to the Legislature & Ministry Offices

As well as housing our Victoria-based staff and a rental apartment, Local Government House is available to all of our members as a meeting space. We are conveniently located across the street from the Legislative Assembly and are within walking distance of many Ministry offices, hotels, restaurants, float plane terminals and numerous bike and bus routes.  Local Government House is also within close proximity to more than 20 public transit routes.

Web & Self-Guided Tour

A web-based tour of the building is available.  Simply click on any of the features below or visit the construction or building features photo galleries.  If you are visiting Local Government House in person, a self-guided tour map is available as well as wooden signs that identify BC wood and other regional materials on the exterior and in the interior of the building.

Green Workplace Handbook

The purpose of the Green Workplace Handbook is to inform staff of green workplace guidelines for UBCM operations in order to reduce our environmental footprint, green house gas emissions and carbon footprint.

The Green Workplace Handbook is provided for the Victoria and Richmond offices. Guidelines in the body of the document refer to both sites; however, the appendices have been customized according to each office.  The version available here is for our Victoria office.

The Green Event Guidelines, included as Appendix 7, are intended as a guide for both UBCM events and for events held by external users within Local Government House.
